The objective is common to all the modalities: to throw the pellos to knock down the tongue or to turn the blades or fork of the key, which awards a point.
The games, which usually consist of several rounds, are played for points.
In order for a key to be valid, it is essential that the hair is thrown directly and has not previously bounced on the ground.
History
As there are three modalities of the game depending on the province where it is played, three types of chave are distinguished: the chave de lengua or punta de lanza (A Coruña and Santiago), the chave en aspa (Orense and Lugo), and the chave de horquilla (typical of Ferrol).
The pellos are metal discs (iron or lead) of variable diameter and weight depending on the modality. From 3 to 4 pellos are used in each game.
