Birilé

Info

We play or mark a rectangular field, and divide it in half. At the ends we mark another smaller area called the cemetery. We form two teams that place themselves between the center line and the cemetery. One player from each team is placed in the opposite cemetery until he eliminates one of his team, at which time he returns to his own field.

The game consists of throwing the ball against the opponent, trying to hit him, being eliminated if successful, you can also pass the ball to the teammate who is in the cemetery, making the opposing team move from side to side of the field.

The eliminated players go to the cemetery and the team that eliminates all the players of the opposing team wins.

History

French origin

González, N. (2017)3 comments that the term brilé, which is attributed to the French lexeme brulé, leads us to deduce that we are dealing with a possible loan from the Gallic language or Gallicism.

This author also highlights that the word brilé does not appear in reference dictionaries, although the lexical unit brilar does appear in the Diccionario Básico de Canarismos, registered for the islands of Tenerife and La Palma, accompanied by the following definition: "in the game of brilé, to eliminate one of the members of the opposing team after hitting him with the ball".
